CANCELLEDDue to illness of a principal actor, Friday night’s performance of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen at Richmond’s Georgian Theatre Royal is cancelled. A deeply haunting saga of love, betrayal and hypocrisy gradually unfolds as ghosts from the past come back to haunt the living. Written in 1881, Ghosts is a study of the lingering poison in a marriage based on lies. With its open discussion of taboo subjects - free love, incest and sexual disease - the play was banned in England until 1914. A landmark in the history of European drama, Ghosts remains starkly relevant today. |
