Thursday 17th April Jenny Agutter - reader With Jenny Agutter, we take a fascinating look at English life through the acute and witty writings of Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) and her literary contemporaries.

Alongside this, evocative music by Purcell, Dring and Le Fleming is played by Diana Ambache and Jeremy Polmear from the Ambache Chamber Ensemble. Jane Austen was a keen amateur pianist and made a collection of music for herself to play. Works by Handel, Hasse and Kelly are included from her music library and music by Austen’s English female contemporaries such as Jane Guest and Maria Hester Park, are also in the programme.
Jane Austen’s World is an evening of hidden treasures from the literary and musical world uncovering the attitudes, restrictions and pleasures of eighteenth century life for women.
Patron of the Ambache, Jenny Agutter came to the attention of the public when she played Roberta in Lionel Jeffries' 1971 film The Railway Children. She has played major roles on both sides of the Atlantic in the films Equus, American Werewolf and Logan's Run.
